This is a continuation of my series of Hope Kids Sessions. These special needs family photography sessions are a venue through which families with a child who is facing a challenging disability or illness are able to share the story of their journey and the Hope that results from their experiences. Through these stories we see struggles which help us realize we are not alone. We see trust when everything else is out of control. And we discover the things which are most valuable in life: “hope, faith. and love, but the greatest of these is love.” I Corinthians 13:13.Read More
Why is time of day so important for senior portrait sessions and family photo sessions you may ask? It has everything to do with the light that is the result. I try to encourage every client to schedule their photo sessions as close to sunset as possible. The hour before sunset is called the golden hour. As the sun reaches the horizon, an incredible, dreamy kind of light seems to pour over everything. It creates a magical glow on your subject and results in the most beautiful skin tones. The light illuminates your subject and their surroundings making for a truly beautiful photo session.
As we begin to wake up from our sleepy and long winter in Minnesota, Senior Photo season is fast approaching and families are beginning to think about their family portraits. This year, I hope to have more and more sessions during Golden Hour. It is so worth keeping your little ones up a bit later so that you can snuggle in the beauty and quiet of this time of day. I hope to enjoy more Seniors in the beauty of the many beautiful natural landscapes we have here as well. These photos were taken at the Millenium Gardens in Plymouth, MN and down a country road by my house. The beauty of Golden Hour is that it can turn even the simplest backyard into something beautiful just because of the light that is bathing the surroundings.mi
As a photographer, you are truly an artist that paints with light. Different types of light allow you to create a mood that sets the stage for your subject. I still feel I am learning to truly embrace light in this way. It takes a great deal of patience and practice. It also forces you to stop, think, and be fully present in your surroundings. This is the beauty of photography for me.
Mommy and Me Baby Photos are turning out to be some of my favorite family photography sessions by far! There is nothing more intimate than a mother snuggling with her baby. I have been doing these sessions in a studio that I rent form Vintage Magnolia Studios in the Architectural Antiques building in Northeast Minneapolis. This natural light studio is not your typical space. It is large enough for me to be able to do the natural lifestyle sessions that I love, while allowing clients to be in a warm, comfortable environment during cold Minnesota winters and early spring. I set up the studio with rugs and couches so that there is room to relax, play and dance around with their little ones. The beautiful light from the floor to ceiling windows creates an incredible glow around them. Mommy and Me Photo Sessions run now through May! Schedule yours today!
I am a lifestyle photographer that loves to capture photographs of babies and families in their most candid moments. Normally, my baby photo sessions are held in someone's home or outdoors, but this time, I challenged myself to get the same candid effect in a studio setting. It turned out beautifully! One year old baby sessions are typically of just baby, but I feel that it is so important to include mommy or other family members, too. I am now offering one year old baby photography sessions that are lifestyle sessions and include mommy, daddy, siblings and other important members of baby's life. I think that these sessions are so important for preserving the memories that you and your little one will cherish for years to come.
When our kids look back at the photo books, baby books, or digital pictures that we have saved of their lives, what do you think they want to see most of all? Is it just themselves? No, they want to see us. So many times, mommy is never in the picture, but the one taking the picture. But our children want to see us. They want to see mom or dad's faces, the way they looked at us, laughed with us, or maybe even cried with us. So, the next time you think about scheduling your child's photos, consider being a part of the session. Your little one will thank you for it!
